Top Five Uses For Allspice Essential Oil

Allspice is one of my favorite essential oils to diffuse during this time of year.  It makes me feel so warm and cozy.  Don’t let the name fool you, this is not a synergy of all spices, but a single essential oil.  The aroma is reminiscent of clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg.  In its spice form it is often used in Jamaican cuisine, bringing a unique kick to their dishes.  Have you ever tried Caribbean jerk seasoned chicken?  Allspice is a main ingredient! 

Allspice is an unripe berry that grows in a tropical environment on an evergreen tree that grows to about 30 feet.  They are dark green (when unripe and harvested) and about the size of peas.  During the spring and summer the tree is covered in little white flowers, subsequently clusters of berries appear in the fall and are harvested shortly thereafter.  The berries are then steam distilled to get the essential oil. 

My current batch of Allspice (confirmed by GC/MS reports) contains a whopping 47.1% Eugenol making this a fabulous essential oil choice for many things.  My top five uses are;

·     1. Increase circulation

1 ounce carrier oil, 2 drops Allspice, 2 drops Lemongrass, and 8 drops Rosemary

·     2. Ease ease an upset stomach

1 ounce carrier oil, 2 drops Allspice, 6 drops Ginger, 6 drops Cardamom

·      3. Encourage both physical and mental relaxation

Diffuse 2 drops Allspice, 3 drops Sandalwood, 3 drops Spiced Orange

·      4. Soothe tight muscles, sore joints, and bruised bones

1 ounce carrier oil, 2 drops Allspice, 6 drops Frankincense Carteri, 6 drops Blue Cypress

·      5. Immune Boosting 

Diffuse 2 drops Allspice, 2 drops Cinnamon Leaf, 4 drops Sweet Orange

Allspice is a ‘hot’ oil, you’ll want to be sure to have a maximum dilution of 0.3% when using it topically.  It can also be a mucous membrane irritant so it’s best diffused in small amounts.  It may inhibit blood clotting so avoid using if you’re on blood thinning medications or have a bleeding disorder.

Fishing Adventures

I'll try to s-l-o-w-l-y update our incredible summer adventures!  Here's our Sun Valley trip.  The boys had the opportunity to have their first fishing experience with their Dad, Grandpa, Grandma, and Uncle Brayden.  They were even able to visit their late great grandfathers favorite fishing spot.  For me it brought back such incredible memories from my childhood.  To be able to share those same memories with my children was such a blessing.  Oh and I swear they were clean when we got there!

Pocket Purifier Review

I was so psyched to receive the Pocket Purifier UV light for review.  I typically keep it in my purse and use it on various things daily.  My son's binky gets dropped, shopping cart handles need to be cleaned, I've even been using it on their car seat buckles! 

I'm not very technologically savvy so this is perfect for me.  It's as easy to use as any traditional flashlight, slide it on!  It even has a flashlight function if you slide in a different direction which is convenient as well.  I would love to get another one to keep in my kitchen and one in my purse (I know I'll forget to stick it in my purse before leaving so I'll need two).

I also did a science experiment with the boys.  We chose two plums that looked and felt very similar.  We then used the Pocket Purifier on the plum on the right over a 7 day period. 

The results are clear, the Pocket Purifier eliminates germs and significantly prolongs the freshness of my produce.  I would highly recommend this to everyone, after all who doesn't want to be exposed to less germs and keep their produce fresh longer?

Luly Boo Park 'n' Play Mat Review

I won this awesome Park 'n' Play Mat with a matching travel bag to carry it in.  I love the fabric that's used, it's waterproof, super lightweight, and most importantly for me, machine washable!  I was pleasantly surprised when I received the package because the pictures I had seen on my computer hadn't done it justice.  Living in Hawaii we have a huge variety of different terrains all in close proximity.  We've used this in the grass at the park, sand on the beach, dirt at football games, and even for picnics in the house.  It's really easy to wipe clean which is such a huge plus with three small boys!  I have to admit, I'm not the best at packing things, and as is with most 'travel' and compact items it's a little tricky to get them back into their cases.  I have the peapod, which I love, and have had for four years, and still have trouble getting it back into the case.  That being said it's been a little difficult for me to get the mat back into the travel case as nicely as it arrived, maybe I just need more practice or my hands are too tiny.  At only $34.99 I would highly recommend this to my other mom friends as it's compact and mold able so very easy to keep in your trunk, simple to clean, and not to mention super cute! 

Boston Childrens Museum

Has to be one of my favorite museums both when I was a child and now, as a parent!  In fact it might be a little more fun now... 
We were lucky enough to go during the last month, August, that the museum will be offering free admission to military family members, the tickets are $12 for ages 1+.  I must say that I'm disappointed at the loss of support, places don't usually stop offering free/discounted admission for military dependants, it's usually a permanent addition to their admission. 

That aside we had a blast, particularly at the 'Big Dig' inspired construction zone.  Seriously, what little boy doesn't love construction equipment, and the opportunity to 'operate' it themselves! 

They also loved the being able to create bubbles using different materials.

Wally; The Green Monster

We were so excited to get to see Wally during our visit!  I think that we have every childrens Red Sox/Wally book out there, Jerry Remy is an author we frequently seek.  So to my boys without TV, Wally is like Spider Man and Buzz Lightyear are to other kids.  It's been about a year and a half since we last saw the famous Red Sox mascot.  Look at how much my kids have changed, and of course our new addition as well :) 

Of course it was awesome to not only have help with the boys, but to hangout with my super awesome sister!  Thank you Lauren!!!
